Do the piers of a water crossing bridge extend all the way down to the sea floor?

I searched google maps find altitude and looked where the Confederation Bridge in Canada is located and it says the altitude there is over 1,000 feet below sea level. I know the piers are not that tall, but I know the altitude could be incorrect. But I am not good with bridge construction.
